LOCATION

Posterior and inferior to the angle of the mandible at the anterior margin of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.
In the depression between the angle of the mandible and the anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.
Note: Palpation of the anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle is made easier if the patient turns the head away from the side to be needled while you apply resistance to the chin. If the transverse process of C-2 is palpable, locate and needle the point anterior to it.

NEEDLING

Directed towards the root of the tongue. anterior to the carotid vessels, 0.5 to 1 cun.
Puncture perpendicularlyc0.5 to 0.7 cun.
Moxibustion is applicable.
Straight insertion towards the root of the tongue, 1 to 1.5 cun. Sensation: distention and soreness extending to the root of the tongue or the throat region.
