The drug is the dried root or whole herb of Zehneria indica (Lour.) Keraudren (Family Cucurbitaeae), growing in moist and shady places in forests, along roadsides, in fields and in scrubs, and distributed in Middle-south China and Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan.

Actions

Clear heat and remove toxicity, resolve swelling, dissipate nodule, resolve phlegm and induce diuresis.

Indications

Sore throat, sores, scrofula, sores and boils, eczema, anal fistula, snake bites, traumatic bleeding, difficult urination, mumps, rectocele, urolithiasis, jaundice with hot eyes.

Dosage and Administrations

Decoct 15~30 g. Proper dosage is for external application, pounded for applying or decocted for washing.
